St. John the Baptist Catholic Church New Haven, Indiana
Mission Statement
The mission of the Youth Ministry is to help teens grow in the Knowledge, Love and Service of our Lord Jesus Christ by supporting their Catholic formation, helping them to understand the practical application of their faith, and providing them opportunities to practice that faith in wholesome social interaction and relevant service projects.
The Youth Ministry serves the Catholic parishes of St Rose of Lima, St Louis Besancon, St John the Baptist and the greater communities in which these parishes reside. We welcome and encourage all teens to participate in our programs.

Youth Mass is celebrated at 6:00pm on the 3rd Sunday of each month at St Louis Besancon beginning in September. The Youth Mass is designed for the YOUTH of our parish communities and all are welcome!

What I like about Youth Ministry: I have a passion for youth ministry because I know the only way to get to where you want to be is through Jesus Christ. There are many things vying for our teens attention, many lead down a path of destruction. I believe, teens given a choice, will usually choose Holiness. Giving them an opportunity for making good choices and offering alternatives to cultural fare is a big part of what this ministry is all about. I am privileged to play a small role in the formation of our future Saints.

What I like about Youth Ministry: When I was a teen, the parish to which my family belonged, didn't have a youth group. Oh, how I wish they had! I think that would have been a place to have fun without a lot of the pressures from the secular culture telling me: who I should be, how I should act, or look, or think, or what I should save for myself. A place, to be away from the environment of public school, to make friends and learn how to build strong relationships with those people in my faith community. I believe it would have made my parish appear more welcoming to teens, too. That's why I think the parish of my teen years should have had a youth group, but may help you to understand why I'm on the core team.
This idea that someone wasn't there to serve as a youth leader for me as a teen, brought me into the fold of KLS, here at St John's. I was asked to be a part of the youth group leadership, I was hesitant, and even a little afraid, to say 'yes' to any role, and especially that of a core team member. At the time I was invited, I had been reflecting on the items in a flyer I had picked up from the pew calling for help in the youth ministry program. After reading each item, and thinking 'I could do that.' to every single one of them, I was still hesitant! I spoke to Mary Till, who was so excited about the new LIFE TEEN program and thought the kids would really like it, too. I remember telling her that I'd been thinking about helping in some way, but didn't know for sure if I'd be on the core. All I could think of for a week was that no one had done this for me as a teen and I would have loved it. So, I became a core team member.

What I like about Youth Ministry: I love our strong and rich Catholic faith and it wasn't always that way for me, esp. when I was young. I think I was poorly educated and I find the more I know about Him the more I love Christ and His church. I want to share that with the teens, and having raised teens I know how important it is for them to have friends that love their faith as they do. It is easier to live virtue, when you hang with other teens of virtue.
